The US Navy method provides an estimate with ~3–4% accuracy. For precise measurements, consider DEXA scan or hydrostatic weighing. This tool is for informational purposes only.
The US Navy body fat formula was developed by Hodgdon and Beckett at the Naval Health Research Center in 1984. It estimates body fat percentage from simple body measurements: height, waist, neck (and hip for women). The method has approximately 3-4% accuracy compared to more precise methods like DEXA scans.
For men: %BF = 86.010 × log10(abdomen − neck) − 70.041 × log10(height) + 36.76. For women: %BF = 163.205 × log10(waist + hip − neck) − 97.684 × log10(height) − 78.387. Categories follow ACE (American Council on Exercise) classifications. All calculations run locally in your browser.
